Audubon Machinery Corporation

Audubon Machinery Corporation, located in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, was established in February 2004. Oxygen Generating Systems Inc. (OGSI), a subsidiary, manufactures oxygen systems for medical, agricultural, water treatment, and industrial purposes. In 2005, the principals decided to consolidate operations into one location, a new 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility on a remediated brownfield. The facility incorporated the following principles: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor air quality.
As a result, in 2007, Audubon was recognized by the U.S. EPA for building New York State's first green-certified factory. The U.S. Green Building Council awarded Audubon Machinery Corporation its Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Green Building status.
In addition to the measures listed above, energy conservation features, such as insulation in walls and ceiling, low-e glass, zoned radiant heaters, high-efficiency light fixtures, and multi-zone temperature controls in offices were also identified and implemented.
The project was financed through two mortgages secured by the company as well as State incentives. Estimated electricity savings were calculated at 259,044 kWh per year compared to a conventional similar facility.
