Baldwinsville Central School District

The Baldwinsville Central School District (BCSD) has earned five U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Building Labels. These labels are awarded to buildings that use less energy, are less expensive to operate, and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions than most similar buildings.
A comprehensive package of energy improvements were identified and implemented in the BCSD, including: variable speed motor controls; T5 and T8 energy efficient fluorescent lighting; occupancy sensors; an energy management system; summer equipment shut downs; boiler efficiency improvements; and improved preventative maintenance programs.

One of the measures that provided significant energy efficiency savings was an Integrated Classroom Lighting System (ICLS). An ICLS is a combination of luminaries and controls that consume 50 percent less energy than conventional fluorescent T-12 lights while providing better light output and flexibility within the classroom. A total of seven schools in New York participated in an ICLS demonstration
