The Barton Group
The Barton Group, a maker of quality abrasives for water jet cutting, coatings removal, surface preparation and other specialized applications, occupies a renovated three-story building in Glens Falls that contains 39,000 square feet of commercial space. The renovation of the building interior involved numerous energy retrofits including:
- Upgraded building shell and windows, including insulation
- A geothermal heating system consisting of heat pumps and thermal wells
- Heat recovery and on-demand ventilation to reduce air exchange
- Energy efficient lighting
- Maximum use of daylighting from windows
- Occupancy sensors
- Energy efficient motors
- A green roof and heat reflective roofing membrane to reduce air conditioning
- The use of recycled materials
The Barton Group’s efficiency improvements earned the building a Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating, one of only seven such designations in New York State.
The Barton Group qualified for State financial incentives related to the building’s improved energy efficiency, green building practices, and green building certification. The building’s energy efficiency improvements exceeded the State’s Building Code requirements by 49 percent.
