Ms. Ruth Demler
Ms. Ruth Demler, of Chatham, received State and federal incentives to install insulation, door sweeps, door and window weather stripping, window frame repairs, a carbon monoxide detector, and compact fluorescent lamps. The work was completed by a local weatherization contractor. Planned furnace cleaning will also increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Ms. Demler and her family shared their feelings in the following letter:
January 10, 2009
“…Our family would like to express our deep appreciation…For income-eligible senior citizens, these programs provide home improvements to improve energy efficiency and overall livability and, as was the case with our mother, enabled her to remain in her home, safely and economically. Weatherization and insulation, window replacement, furnace cleaning and upgrading, appliance testing and replacement—these are some of the services available to eligible seniors, often at no cost to them!
Many seniors find themselves in situations similar to Mom’s…Her older home has been challenged as well, but little time, energy, or money remained for that. With help from these programs, Mom’s house has been insulated and numerous repairs have been completed. Her house is more energy-efficient, less expensive to heat, safer, and— to her delight—warmer! Utility bills have decreased as well…”
