The Fair Deal Cafe
Mr. Koshy Chacko is President of The Fair Deal Café in Armonk. This Westchester County business is comprised of a restaurant, banquet hall and meeting rooms. Mr. Chacko signed up for a State study that recommended energy-efficient lighting, efficient use of domestic water heat, efficient kitchen equipment, programmable thermostats, and occupancy sensors to control lighting. The work was installed by independent contractors funded through State and utility incentives.
According to Mr. Chacko:
“The Flex Tech study had estimated that it would cost $23,000 to install energy efficient lighting. My three heating/air-conditioning units were always set at 70 degrees before the NYSERDA inspection. They are now programmed at four different settings depending on the time of the day. Occupancy Sensors are inexpensive and many of you can install yourself in hallways, toilets and storage rooms. You will be amazed at the energy savings….”

“…The next project is to install a hot water heater that can operate with used cooking oil. My next steamer will be connectionless that can save 73 percent on energy. I want to install light tubes capturing sunlight. My dream is to put solar panels on the roof and produce electricity…”
