Rochester City School District
The Rochester City School District (RCSD) has been widely recognized for its efforts to promote conservation and efficiency in its facilities. The RCSD recently implemented additional enhancements to its energy-using equipment that were funded through tax exempt operating leases and incentives. These projects included:

- Lighting upgrades
- Motor upgrades
- Building envelope improvements
- Burner management system installation
- Energy management system upgrades
- New boilers
- Variable frequency drives
Over the years, State incentives have allowed RCSD to achieve over seven million kWh annually.
The RCSD has educated students about energy issues through its participation in the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green Schools Program, which promotes hands-on, real-world learning about energy and energy efficiency. The school district has also integrated energy efficiency and sustainability into course curricula. At 17 of the district's schools, green school clubs perform service-based learning projects that involve staff, students, mentors, and the community in activities such as energy patrols in the school, energy art projects, pledges to conserve energy at home, sign-up cards for parents to purchase renewable energy, and the grading of teachers on their efforts to reduce energy use at the school. The RCSD has also partnered with corporate engineers and professionals within the community to mentor the green school clubs.
