The Thompson House

Owners of the Thompson House, a summer resortin Windham, replaced the existing heating and cooling system with high-efficiency equipment.

A heat pump system was identified that could provide the required level of efficient operation. The system design eliminated the hot air furnace and inefficient cooling equipment, replacing them with a three-zone heat pump system powered by three separate units. Heat pumps are the ideal space-conditioning equipment for this facility because they are highly efficient at providing air conditioning and can provide heating efficiently at temperatures down to 40°.

Savings are projected to reach $5,900 over the next ten years. The project was made more affordable by an incentive provided by the State based on the system’s energy characteristics, as well as by a loan rate buy-down of four percent, provided through The Bank of Greene County.
